CLEAR partners with individual airports to provide the Trusted Traveler service. Click here to see more about the people behind new CLEAR.

How it Works

How does the CLEARcard work?

Look for the CLEARcube which indicates a CLEARlane.
Present your CLEARcard and boarding pass to the CLEAR attendant.
Insert your card into the CLEAR kiosk and give your biometrics (either fingerprint or iris image).
Once verified proceed to get you and your bags screened.

What ID is required to use the CLEARlane?

You will need to present your valid boarding pass along with your CLEARcard. Note: To conform with TSA's Secure Flight, the first and last names on your boarding pass must EXACTLY MATCH your CLEARcard. Remember to always book trips using the exact name on your CLEARcard.

If I am a CLEARmember and my child is not, can we use the lane together?

Yes! If your child is under 18, he or she may use the CLEARlane at no cost when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who is a CLEARmember. Children ages 18 and older must be members to use the CLEARlane. Please note: depending on the airport, rules may vary. In some cases the child may need to see a TSA official for final verification.

Can I lend my CLEARcard to a friend or family member?

No, CLEAR is secure ID. The biometrics of another person will not match the biometrics stored on your CLEARcard. The fact that only you can use your card is one of the security benefits of CLEAR.

How do I take care of my CLEARcard?

Keep your CLEARcard safe so the chip doesn't get scratched or damaged by other cards in your wallet. If your CLEARcard does get lost or damaged, log in to "Your account" to order a replacement card.

General FAQs

Does CLEAR allow members to bypass TSA screening or avoid the Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) scanners?

CLEAR is currently approved as an alternative to the TSA Travel Document Checker based on the integrity and security of our identity authentication and validation process. CLEAR is not an alternative to physical screening. The TSA physical screening process at most airports is a single process for all passengers, including CLEARmembers. As such, CLEARmembers are currently subject to the same physical screening processes as other travelers, including AIT scanners also known as whole body scanners. TSA is currently piloting a risk-based physical screening process at select airport. The pilot program is called PreCheck. Please see more details on CLEAR and PreCheck below under "TSA Risk-Based Screening Pilot."

Are you interoperable with Global Entry?

TSA Risk-Based Screening Pilot

What's CLEAR's perspective on the recently announced TSA pilot?

CLEAR strongly supports the TSA'S Risk Based Screening Pilot

There's a Press Release available on CLEAR's site that explains our position: http://clearme.com/announcements/clear-voices-strong-support-tsas-risk-based-screening-pilot

As TSA acknowledged, for any Risk Based Screening approach to be secure, they must have a way to positively identify travelers. CLEAR has proven that the combination of secure enrollment, commercial data, and biometrics is a very powerful way to achieve that identification.

CLEAR is the largest provider of secure, biometric identity verification for airport security and in on-going conversations with the TSA.

Why should I purchase/renew CLEAR if I can get thru even more quickly with this program?

This is an early and extremely limited pilot to test certain processes. According to TSA, the pilot is only open to a few thousand people, and it is not clear if, how or when they will expand beyond this population or the small number of participating airports.

On the other hand, TSA is now publically signaling its interest in verified identity programs to potentially offer differentiated physical screening. In this sense, being a CLEARmember is actually a way to be part of using biometrics and verified identification now, and to bypass Travel Document Checkers as a result.

CLEAR is continuing to work with TSA and is more confident than ever that TSA will ultimately offer some sort of public-private partnership that takes advantage of CLEAR's technology and access to commercial data.
